SCHOONHEID IN VERLIES — MAFF

Schoonheid in verlies is a book by jewellery designer Veronique Sneyaert. While creating personalised memorial jewellery, she was entrusted with deeply personal stories about love, grief and remembrance. Those encounters became the foundation of this publication.

Through conversations and portraits, the book explores the unexpected beauty that can emerge from loss. The design embraces restraint, using typography, rhythm and generous white space to create room for reflection, allowing the stories to speak for themselves.

Each story opens with a bold typographic page announcing the name of the person who passed away, setting a contemplative rhythm throughout the book.

This gesture was inspired by the simple mourning notices often seen on village squares in Italy: simple but beautiful  sheets bearing the names of the deceased. They mark a place where people pause, gather, and share stories of those who are gone.
